Our school is participating in a very special community service program to raise funds for the American Heart Association (AHA). We’re joining the fight against our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers—cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Last school year Cary Elementary raised over $3,000 for the AHA with our Hoops for Heart event. This year we are moving back to Jump Rope for Heart as a way of trying to keep things fresh.
The weeks of March 18-27, 2013, our school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. These events are held at schools nationwide and not only help students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, but also raise funds to support vital heart and stroke research, as well as educational programs. The event will take place during your child’s regularly scheduled P.E. class. All students will participate in the jump rope lesson regardless of whether they raise money or not. We hope all will participate and raise money, but it is not required to participate in our heart-healthy lessons.
Letters and collection envelopes went home last week. After looking over the information, if you and your child feel inclined to be HEART HEROES, then simply collect and turn in envelopes during their scheduled P.E. classes during March 18-27.
