Be Active and Play, 60 Minutes Every Day!
Did you know the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 60 minutes of physical activity for children every day? In addition to the physical benefits of exercise, it can also help increase a child’s capacity for learning, as well as improve self-esteem and help them handle stress. The PTA Health & Wellness committee has a number of simple, exciting activities that can help students reach the goal of 60 Minutes of Play Every Day!
- Walk to School Day: Wednesday, October 9, 2013
- Weekend Walk: Saturday, November 2, 2013, location TBA
Coach Cougar Fitness Calendar:
New this year, students will receive a paper calendar to take home with daily fitness and nutrition challenges. The goal is for students to complete as many activities as possible every month, and to turn in completed calendars at the end of the month.
The classroom with the most participants will receive the Coach Cougar mascot for the month and a special banner for their door….PLUS the chance to earn an extra recess each quarter! The calendar has lots of fun ideas for being active as a family, and we encourage everyone to participate. Keep an eye out for the first calendar this October!
Health & Wellness Website:
The Health & Wellness committee has designed a community website to exchange ideas for eating healthy and getting active, and we need your help to make it grow! Families are encouraged to submit articles for the website on topics such as:
- Kid-friendly, healthy recipes
- Photos and descriptions of how families are keeping active
- Community wellness events
- Favorite parks and outdoor activities
