Kindergarten has completed a fall unit of study with a focus on pumpkins. Their unit has incorporated various subjects: during science, they discussed pumpkin properties (look, feel, smell, sink or float) and the life cycle of a pumpkin; in math, students compared pumpkins (size, color), estimated the number of seeds inside, and discussed the shape of pumpkins; and in literacy, the kindergarteners read a variety of texts, both fictional and informational. They have also written about pumpkins, whether it’s about their experiences with pumpkins in class, at home, or even make-believe stories with a pumpkin as the main character. This fun unit of study culminated with the kindergarten field trip to Ganyard Farms and pumpkin carving with parents. Below are pictures from the wonderful parent/student carving event.
